John Scalici is an award winning teaching artist, internationally recognized drum circle facilitator, musician, and speaker. His powerful message of Unity Through Rhythm has been featured on campuses across the country. He is a drummer who has played in two national touring bands, written two albums worth of catchy, high energy blues rock songs, and shared the stage with the Allman Brothers, Santana, Widespread Panic, Govt’ Mule, Buddy Guy, among others.
As a solo artist and teaching artist, he has released two highly acclaimed CDs: RhythmMusic and Rhythms for Drumming and Movement.
John passionately believes we are all drummers with a story to tell. Rhythm connects us all in many ways. Rhythm is a universal language. Everyone speaks it. Everyone understands it. In 1999, John created Get Rhythm!®, a company which provides, interactive rhythm programs for team building, diversity awareness, leadership development, and community building.
He has never looked back since. Combining his communications degree with his passion for rhythm and drumming, he has the expertise to lead a group into rhythm and harmony while skillfully delivering metaphors in diversity, leadership, communication, and cooperation.
A strong advocate for the arts in education, he is the recipient of the 2005 Fellowship Grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts, the 2008 Pauline Ireland Award granted to individual artists, and was presented with the 2010 “Making a Difference” award by the Alabama Alliance for Arts Education. He has worked with a variety of groups from all walks of life and his work with special needs children and adults has been featured nationally on the Hallmark channel.
He has studied djembe music with world renowned Grand Master djembe player, Mamady Keita and recently completed a year long training at Youth Villages, Inc. where he earned a certificate in Therapeutic Drumming. John continues to teach, speak, perform, and facilitate meaningful workshops and programs around the country to Inspire, Motivate and Empower participants to reach their full human potential through the universal language of rhythm.
